Charis Cooper is a singer-songwriter, rockpoet, actor and budding YouTuber. Up until recently she was known as Annika Brown, and, although still very proud of her previous work, she is currently working on new projects, that match her artistic vision.
Born in Germany, she grew up with a passion for music, words and performing. Before moving to the UK she spent years extensively studying creative writing and literature. Although having written songs throughout her teenage years, she started songwriting in earnest while living on Dartmoor, in a tiny, cottage which coincidentally was inhabited in the early 70s by Mick Taylor of The Rolling Stones, “and his harem”, as the landlady liked pointing out.
As Annika Brown she released 2 albums, fronted the band “Annika Brown and the Deep” and developed her trademark performance style, which is very much inspired by early German cabaret and Berthold Brecht. She staged a very well received live show - half play, half cabaret - which she performed in the character of the devil, combining her music with a selection of poems by award-winning poet John Agard. After a successful double bill with the same, it became clear to her that a new name was on the charts.
At present, besides working on new material, she is preparing for her part in a short film, which is expected to be shot early 2019.
